DEBBIE BUSCH: “104th ASSEMBLY DISTRICT SENDS CLEAR MESSAGE WITH SCHOOL BUDGET VOTES”
Assembly candidate says voters want return on investment not higher taxes

“Yesterday, voters in the 104th Assembly District sent a clear and unmistakable message that they want a return on investment for their hard-earned money and not higher property taxes.”

“Voters in the Berne-Knox-Westerlo School District rejected an unnecessarily bloated budget that would have increased taxes by 6.7 percent because they’re tired of all the unfunded mandates being passed onto us in the form of higher property taxes from the state Legislature.”

“In contrast, voters in Albany and Guilderland approved school budgets with low tax levies that maintained a commitment to a high-quality education for our children. The Albany and Guilderland school districts should be commended for listening to residents and offering budgets that didn’t sock taxpayers with outrageous property tax hikes.”

“Ultimately, something must be done on the state level to reform our broken property tax system, and end the unfunded state mandates to burden schools and make taxpayers pay through the nose. We shouldn’t have to always spend more money for good schools; rather we should just be smarter about spending what we have.”

The 104th Assembly District includes part of the City of Albany and the towns of Berne, Guilderland, Knox, New Scotland, Rensselaerville, and Westerlo.

BUSCH:McEneny RESPONSIBLE FOR CLOSURE OF THATCHER STATE PARK

NEWS from Deborah Bush For State Assembly
For Release: IMMEDIATE Contact: Deborah Busch
Tuesday, May 18, 2010 (518) 928-1591

“NYC kids enjoy their new merry-go-round while Albany families get the
runaround,” Busch says
ALBANY – State Assembly candidate Deborah Busch today called on Assemblyman Jack
McEneny to explain to the people of Albany County his vote to earmark $21
million in state funds to build a new waterfront park in Manhattan while the
state was facing the economic crisis that would ultimately force the closure of
John Boyd Thacher State Park in Albany County.
Busch’s call comes after the New York Daily News reported in its May 18 edition
that on the same day Thacher Park and more than 50 other state run facilities
were closed due to the state’s budget crisis, Governor David Paterson was in New
York City cutting the ribbon on a brand new waterfront park, complete with
skateboard ramps and a new merry-go-round.
According to the Daily News article, the new section of the Hudson River Park
was built with $50 million from the city and state, including $21 million in
state funds earmarked by Governor David Paterson two years ago. The State
Legislature approved the funds.
“For years Jack McEneny and the career politicians in control of our state
government have been piling on new spending when we couldn’t even afford to
maintain what we already had,” Busch said. “They spent $21 million in tax money
so kids down in New York City can enjoy a new merry-go-round and now they can’t
afford to cut the grass at Thacher Park?”
Busch, who lives in the Town of Berne, just minutes from Thacher Park, said she
and her neighbors have been offended by McEneny’s attempts to distance himself
from blame for the park’s closure.
“Instead of standing up for the taxpaying families in his district, Jack McEneny
voted right along with the downstate politicians for bloated budget after
bloated budget,” she said. “So when he talks about how upset he is that Thacher
is closing, he knows full well that he has voted for all the spending and all
the misplaced priorities that created the budget deficit and forced the
closures,” she said.
“He’s as responsible for the closure of Thacher Park as anyone else and the
people of Albany County deserve an explanation,” she said.

Rather than Furlough Worker, Legislators Should Be Fired!

For Immediate Release:
May 11, 2011
On Monday, Assemblyman McEneny had the audacity to speak at a rally in support of state workers only to contradict himself later that day by voting in favor of furloughs. Rather than grandstand at the rally, he should have been honest and told them that he and his party leadership are entirely responsible for that decision.

State elected officials, including Assemblyman McEneny, have been “spinning” the facts, saying they were “forced” to cast a vote to furlough state workers, despite their objection to the plan. But, the truth is they brought this on themselves with years of bad decision-making and poor fiscal policies.

Last year, in spite of an economy spiraling downward causing uncertain revenue forecasts Assemblyman McEneny chose to follow his party leadership by voting for a budget that increased spending by $10 billion over the prior year; a budget that eliminated the property tax rebate checks and contained $8.5 billion in new taxes and fees residents could ill afford.

The unsustainable levels of spending and taxation have led countless residents and businesses to depart New York and ultimately, to the decision to furlough state workers. Rather than cap state spending, revise property tax formulas and reform government dysfunction, they continue to balance the budget on the backs of hard-working taxpayers.

This November, residents will have the opportunity to change the way government is run by electing reform-minded candidates, such as myself. As such, I urge you to vote your conscience and not your party line.

Candidate, 104th Assembly District
